Pinterest launches ‘Try on’ beauty AR feature

Pinterest has launched Try on, a new feature that allows its users to virtually sample lipstick shades before purchasing.

Powered by Lens, Try on lets Pinners virtually try on products from retailers using augmented reality technology, allowing them to discover and try new products before making a purchase.

By opening Pinterest Lens, consumers will see the option to “try on” and can then easily swipe through to discover different lipstick shades and see how they look. They can then tap through to purchase the lipstick from the retailer.

With the UK remaining under lockdown restrictions and shopping for beauty inspiration on the high street ncreasingly difficult, Try on is a simple, easy-to-use and efficient tool that allows consumers to discover new brands and products, and recreate the magical department store make-up counter experience straight from the comfort of home.

As with the launch of Pinterest’s skin tone ranges  earlier this year, the Try on feature champions inclusivity on the platform, allowing Pinners to select their skin tone to recommend relevant lipstick shades for whichever skin colour that fits best.

Pinterest believes in celebrating authenticity, so the AR features don’t augment appearances by adding filters, but simply show the real 'you' and allow consumers to make confident purchase decisions via Pinterest.

Try on for lipstick is now available in the UK on iOS and Android mobile, with more categories to follow.
