NIVEA unveils mass market’s first bio-based jars

In a first for the mass market, NIVEA parent company Beiersdorf has launched packaging made from certified renewable plastics.

The jars for the day and night creams in the new NIVEA Naturally Good face care range have the same look and feel as virgin plastic, but with 41% less virgin plastic per jar – equating to a reduction of 266 tons a year.

Created using certified renewable tall oil instead of crude oil, the bio-based jars are derived from renewable raw materials via a process that reduces energy and water consumption, as well as toxic waste. Converting the packaging to renewable plastic not only has the advantage of conserving fossil resources, but also reduces CO2 emissions.

The new packaging for NIVEA Naturally Good forms part of the brand’s climate neutrality commitments and contributes to Beiersdorf’s climate target of an absolute reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025.

As well as being housed in packaging that is 100% recyclable, up to 100% bio-based and enclosed in 89.6% recycled folding boxes, NIVEA Naturally Good Day and Night Creams contain ingredients of 99% natural origin.

Naturally Good Day Radiance Cream contains organic aloe vera and moisturises skin for 24 hours, while Naturally Good Day Sensitive Cream is infused with chamomile to help soothe irritated skin and relieve tightness. Finally, Naturally Good Night Cream is formulated with rich organic argan oil to support skin regeneration overnight. RRP £5.99 each.
