Unilever has announced an investment of £80 million to boost in-house fragrance capabilities, including plans to build a state-of-the-art fragrance facility in Port Sunlight, Merseyside close to Unilever’s existing research and development facilities.
The multi-faceted facility will involve the use of technology, including robotics and AI to support fragrance creation, while integrating innovative labs and evaluation suites to aid in the development of fragrance products.
The plan to build this facility is a major step for Unilever’s global investment to build world-class in-house fragrance capabilities.
Expanding on these sites will bring fragrance invocation to Unilever’s Home Care, Personal Care, Beauty and Wellbeing brands, including Dove, Sure, TRESemmé and more.
Richard Slater, Chief of Research and Development Officer at Unilever, says: “We are delighted to announce this significant investment to build a world-class fragrance house within Unilever.”
“Our new fragrance facility and expert perfumers will enable us to bring fragrance insight and innovation to our brands at speed, and working with our partners, to reinvent how fragrances are created for consumer products,” comments Slater.
With an added focus on recruitment, Unilever is also investing in hiring industry-leading perfumers from around the world to share their expertise and further help to drive fragrance development.
