Growth serum promises longer, thicker hair

After years of research, GrowAfro has developed a new serum which, as its name suggests, is designed specifically for black women whose hair is either natural or permed, or in transition.

It is formulated from a blend of 100% natural and organic products including almond oil, castor oil, coconut oil and rosemary leaf. These ingredients are abundant in fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that penetrate deep into the hair follicles to stimulate and strengthen hair growth, says the company.

GrowAfro was created by a group of women with a desire to dispel the myth that afro and curly hair doesn’t grow long and thick. Chief mastermind behind the product Alicia Forbes said: “I want to prove that with the right care, right products, right information, that afro hair does grow to great lengths.

"The texture of our hair will never change. The uniqueness of our hair will never change. What will change, however, and is changing is the desire to learn about our own hair and seek products that are designed for our unique hair by those who themselves have this type of hair.”

Aside for promoting long, thick hair, GrowAfro also provides moisture and shine. The product’s antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties also help fight dandruff and relieve dry, itchy scalps.

The product is suitable for women with natural hair and perms, as well as those who wear wigs, weaves and braids. It has a retail price of £12.50.
