Me and SJP!

OMG! I have just met Sarah Jessica Parker, THE Sarah Jessica Parker of Sex And The City Fame – my favourite TV show of all time. To let you know what a seminal moment this is in my life (sad, I know) if I was a contestant on Mastermind, SATC would officially be my specialist subject (and I’d win!).

I’d like to say I had a one to one with her but I was one of around 100 people all vying for her attention at a swanky lunch at London’s Claridges Hotel where she was unveiling her new fragrances, The Lovely Collection.

I’m lucky enough to have met a few famous people in the course of my job here at Beauty Mag and I am always struck by how, well, normal they are in person and SJP was no different. In fact the thing that struck me most (after the dazzlingly high heels, perfect make-up and fabulous Chanel suit – damn her) was how different her voice was to that of her screen alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw. In person she seemed less self-assured and more girly somehow, but absolutely lovely (pun intended).

After a presentation on the new scents (thumbs up all round), she made a point of making her way around the room to talk to the assembled press. Refreshingly, in this world of hyped up celebrity spin in which we live, SJP is very much involved in the creation of her fragrances and talks with pride about her work. In short, she actually cares what people think.

After a brief chat she was ushered away to the next table but I had just long enough with her to ask if she wore her own fragrances (always) and who made her shoes (Balenciaga, since you ask). I even managed to have my photo taken with her (definitely one of Beauty’s wall of fame!) It has to be approved by her ‘people’ (to make sure she doesn’t look bad – as if) but hopefully I’ll have photographic evidence to share with you in the magazine.

Until then you’ll just have to take my word for it!
